Prayer is one of the prominent disciplines in the Christian life. This is dependent on a strong relationship with God and is a blessing in our own lives. Prayer is the spiritual discipline that helps you develop spiritual maturity in your relationship with God. Prayer is primarily a vehicle for communicating with God and allowing him to communicate with you.
What is Prayer?
By definition, a relationship requires communication between two people. Thus, prayer is the foundation of every relationship with God. Jesus’ life and ministry are evidence of its importance. As God’s own Son, he frequently went off by himself to pray.
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.Matthew 14:13 ESV
He also set an example for his disciples by teaching them how to pray.
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
4 Keys of a Prayer
There are usually four main elements to a time of prayer. (1) Adoration – Verbally praising God for his character. (2) Confession – Expressing humility and repentance for sin and gratefulness for justification. (3) Thanksgiving – Gratitude for everything that God has done, is doing, and will do. (4) Supplication – Humble requests for God to satisfy our needs and praise for his sovereignty.
The Value of Daily Prayer
Life is busy, and finding time for prayer can seem like an impossible task. I know I am certainly guilty of prioritizing other things over time with God. In the midst of our crazy lives, we cling to the relationships that are most important to us. Our relationship with God should be at the top of that list, and prayer (communication) is how we maintain it. So, in the chaos of your busy lives, don’t lose focus. Make time for what’s most important, always keep on praying to the Lord with gladness.
